Adjectives Used as Adverbs

In Chinese, adjectives such as 好, 难, 容易 can be used to modify the actions. In a sentence, they come immediately before the main verb.

1. 好/难 + Verb, indicating sense = (un)pleasant to the senses

jièmo hěn nán chī.
芥末 吃。

Mustard is terrible to eat.

zhèshǒugē zhēn hǎo tīng.
这首歌 听。

This song is really nice.

zhègèyóuxì hěn hǎo wán.
这个游戏 玩。

This game is very interesting.

2. 好/难/容易 + Verb, indicating activity = easy/difficult to accomplish

qián hǎo zhuàn.

It’s not easy to make money.

guǎngdōnghuà hěn nán xué.
广东话 学。

Cantonese is very difficult to learn.

yìshēng hěn róngyì dú.
一声 容易 读。

The first tone of pinyin is very easy to pronounce.
